"Luca of the Dream" is a performance by Daniel E. Zamora. Reality blends with the mystical as Luca, a fox from a spirit realm, weaves tales inspired by love, time, suffering, healing, and joy. Combining sound, storytelling, projection art, and performance, Zamora shares his lived experiences through stories that traverse imagination and introspection, igniting spiritual insights. “The practice of storytelling has been a lifelong fascination, specifically when the concepts of timelessness, memory, and healing are considered. For me, these stories are an opportunity to gain awareness of the simultaneous construction and deconstruction of how we attempt to understand and explain the worlds we inhabit. I was a queer kid coming to consciousness as the HIV/AIDS epidemic began devastating the LGBTQ+ community, and books became a refuge in this terrifying time. I came to believe in the curative nature of sharing our stories, and “Luca of the Dream” is an invitation to consider these boundless possibilities together.” Past performances have been presented by the Convergence Research team at the Blaffer Museum, Bill Arning Exhibitions, and the Orange Show in Houston, TX. Daniel is an interdisciplinary artist and MFA candidate in the IPEF program in the School of Arts at the University of Houston.
